Miguel’s “Cadillac” & The Get Down

 

Recently Miguel released “How Many” tributing to #BlackLivesMatters movement, with seductive song “Come Through & Chill”, and now “Cadillac” the contribution to “The Get Down” soundtrack. The song was inspired by the 1970’s Hot Chocolate’s “Heaven in the Backseat of My Cadillac.”  The soundtrack also holds features from Grandmaster, Flash, Nas, Nile Rogers, Zayn Malik, and many more.

    The new Netflix series stars Shameik Moore, Jaden Smith, Justice Smith, and Skylan Brooks. The synopsis according to Netflix: The Get Down  focuses on 1970s New York — broken down and beaten up, violent, cash-strapped — dying. Consigned to rubble, a rag-tag crew of South Bronx teenagers are nothings and nobodies with no one to shelter them — except each other, armed only with verbal games, improvised dance steps, some magic markers and spray cans. From Bronx tenements, to the SoHo art scene; from CBGB to Studio 54 and even the glass towers of the just-built World Trade Center, The Get Down is a mythic saga of how New York at the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to hip-hop, punk and disco — as told through the lives and music of the South Bronx kids who changed the city and the world…forever.”

The new series is set to premier on Netflix August 12, along with its soundtrack.

 

VH1 Hip Honors: All Hail The Queens Recap Best Moments

Last night live, the VH1 Hip Hop honors took place in New York for the very first time since 2010.  For the honorees this year, Missy Elliot Queen Latifah, Salt-n-Peppa were acknowledged in tribute. Each queen were given a tremendous tribute and even some gave a performance in their own right.

Rapper and actress from Philly, Eve was the host of the night and gave tribute to Missy Elliot.

Beyonce’s launches Athletic line “Ivy Park”

Beyonce has just released her new athletic clothing line called Ivy Park in honor of her 4 year old daughter Blue Ivy. Queen b’s  new line includes headbands, bodysuits, leg gins, T-shirts, jackets, and crop tops all for working out. These items will be released on April 14th and will be in all high end department stores including Topshop and Nordstrom.

Beyonce introduced her new line with photos and a video where she dances and swims in her workout clothes. She also talks about her childhood and her motivation to stay fit.

“When I have to conquer those things, I still go back to that park. Before I hit the stage, I go back to that park. When it was time for me to give birth, I went back to that park. The park became a state of mind. The park became my strength,” says Beyonce.

K michelle’s Got More Issues Than Vogue

K Michelle releases her debut album (MITV) “More Issues Than Vogue, just last week Friday, March 25th, 2016 and is available streaming on platforms now. With her new outlook on her third album, K creates a different sounds that she has been feeling upon her. The rebel singer has explained: “Im sick off executives telling me I can’t sing certain songs because I’m black. I grew up on country, let me sing.”  Main song she happened to be talking about despite the controversy is “If It Ain’t Love”  that is a country tune that seemed to be a challenge for her on the rise.

K Michelle gave all kinds of piece by piece before the actual break of her new album all starting off with “Not A Little Bit” as she channels Mary J piano, as a first hit. With the release of “Mindful” a 1 minute and 55 second track she released a video for adding her Memphis teases on scenes. MITV is now #1 on the R&B charts of itunes. Overall this is a great body work of for a third album.

The Memphis singer also has said this will be her last album and will continue to focus on her career as store owner and upcoming project as a record label owner, exposing amazing talent such as hers.

Keri Hilson’s New Album L.I.A.R

After 5 years, Keri HIlson is making a comeback with her new album called L.I.A.R. This new album will reveal why the singer took a break from music. “I promise, I will tell my fans everything on this album. Why I was really gone, what actually happened, what didn’t, what I could control, and what I couldn’t,” says Hilson. “Never will I ever again take a break from music.”

The singer plans on releasing her new single “Again” on Friday, March 18. The song was produced by Mike WiLL-Made It and co-written by R. City, the “raw mid-tempo R&B anthem” is described as “Keri’s most honest song to-date.”

Zendaya lands a role in the new Spider-man movie

Young hollywood actress Zendaya, has landed a role in Spider-man Reboot starring Tim Holland as Peter Parker. It is believed that the 19 year old will be playing the character Michele Gonzales. Michelle Gonzales was the love interest some may call it, of Peter Parker’s. There are not many details on if she will be playing the female lead role of Tim Holland. It is also unclear that if she may be seen in this trilogy.

Willow Smith the New Brand Ambassador for Chanel

It was just announced this morning by Chanel as of  March 8th 2016, that young Willow Smith has become Chanel’s newest brand ambassador. Willow tells Teen Vogue Magazine: “Sitting in the chairs and just watching the clothes walk by is so amazing because you get to see the souls that’s inside of them. I feel like there is so much creating going on that I want to inject some of my ideas and some of my energy into the brand, because I feel like there’s a lot of things that come from youth nowadays that needs to be expressed and amplified to the world.”   Smith will now be partnering up with the designer of “Chanel” Karl Largerfeld.

Musician Rihanna has graced us again with her presence on the British cover of vogue. With her second british vogue cover, Rihanna also announces and plans to showcase her collab with footwear maestro Manolo Blahnik.

In this cover of Vogue, the artist models her most loved outline from the new gathering including a couple of thigh-high precious stone adorned boots telling Vogue’s Emily Sheffield that anybody wearing one of the six plans better know.

Black Fashion Designers that killed NYFW

It is definitely needed for the African American community today, to be able to express each ones brilliant ideas in the high fashion world.  New York is the most dominant city that embraces the high fashion world. With that being said not many African American designers are not always acknowledged about their work, so in honor of Black History month, I give you the top finest Black Fashion Designers that memorized from NYFW (New York Fashion Week).

Kanye West showed off his Yeezy Season 3 collection at Madison Square Garden, NY Feb 11th, where lots of people from A-list celebrities, designers and fashion supermodels attended. The event was also viewed through tidal. What better way to top off a fashion show without music? Kanye also dj his anticipating album which was not out or heard of at the time “The Life Of Pablo”.

Not just as a music artist but Rihanna also dominated  NYFW as the creative director of  Puma. Showing off her collaboration since last year known as Fenty X Puma for fall 2016. Rih gives off a really edgy, sporty and goth look some may call it for women.

  Just in a matter of two days Beyonce has managed to pull off a anticipating weekend.  On Saturday, February 6, 2016 Bey released her hit single “Formation”. In this intriguing song Beyonce let’s it be known that she is a supporting black activist, and that she is definitely in touch with her roots along with the video to the song which is taken place in none other than New Orleans. Also in the video you get a sense of her being a pro black with the cause, from Bey’s dancers in afros and including her daughter in the video, which Beyonce clearly say’s she loves. After the exciting countdown for the 50th Superbowl Beyonce gave a magnificent performance during halftime along with Coldplay. Bey performed her new formation song along with a unexpected duet and dance off with “Uptown Funk” himself Bruno Mars. Just moments later into the game after the performance from all three talented artists, Beyonce releases a commercial for her upcoming “Formation World Tour.” Jeez! Not even an album out yet this really topped the cake for Bey and fans. Along with the commercial tease released for the Formation Tour, you can catch the Pre sale tickets which starts on February 9th and the sale on February 15th.

Female rapper mogul Nicki Minaj is set to produce and appear on her own comedy series about her life of growing up in the early 90’s in Queens, New York chasing her dreams of wanting to become a rap star. “Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckon with at everything she touches.” said ABC Family executive VP development Karey Bulce. Nicki Minaj has quite an acting resume being on films she has starred in such as, Ice Age: Contiental Drift, The Other Woman, and for upcoming third installment Barbershop 3 coming April 15th 2016.

Teyana Taylor Live at Filmore

Last Night (Thursday, July, 7,2015) @ 9:42 pm, I had a chance to attended G.O.O.D Music’s first lady “Teyana Taylor” concert for the first time at Filmore in Silver Spring Maryland. The whole experience was wonderful, I definitely am a huge fan of Teyana and her works as an artist and so much more of her endless talents. The Maybe hit maker performed all songs off the debut album “VII.” There were about 11 songs that were done on stage including a new track titled “Undercover” which will be on the next album. With a sold out show Teyana brought inspiration that was unbelievable on stage, she channels a bit of Janet Jackson with her attire for the night with a little Michael Jackson with the choreography. Taylor also payed homage to “R&B/Soul Legend Teena Marie” as she sung the bridge from “Portuguese Love.” 

Lil Mama’s “Sausage” is a Summer Hit

Young gifted and talented Lil Mama has taken the word “sausage” by storm as a hits single started on soundcloud (Lil Mama – Sausage). Now its been years since we heard any hits from the young artist but this one has just broken the record for her just by her music video release for the hit just last week. Mama goes in on the song: “you better use a condom if you taking that,” spreading the word about safe sex which is great in a way for our youth community today. Lil Mama has always been a voice to young people which I enjoy artists like that in which she makes that very known and accurate especially in the sausage music video. The premiere of the video was through “Worldstarhiphop” and in the music video its really gives you that old school 80s-90s era feel, also she pays homage to artists such as, Slick Rick, Mary J Blidge, Lisa Left Eye Lopez and more. MTV’s Americas Best Dance Crew New Season

Since the cancellation of the Randy Jackson produced series Americas Best Dance Crew back in 2008 the show is set to make its comeback this summer with its new edition title; “America’s Best Dance Crew: Road to the VMA’s”. Returning with a new season and competition also with new celebrity judges, Frankie Grande, recording artist T.Pain and G.O.O.D music’s first lady Teyana Taylor, also with Entertaintment Tonight’s Jason Dundas will host on the competition series. Recently the news was revealed through tv, personality, Frankie Grande’s youtube channel which he made it as his ABDC Announcement you can view the video (below).

Furious 8 Gets a Release Date?

Recently Furious 7 has a hit of $1.15 billion worldwide and has already broke the box office records. Already there is talks about another film of the Fast and Furious franchise (Furious 8) of course but the title is likely not to be named that. Actor Vin Diesel made the announcement telling fans that Furious 8 has a release date: April 14, 2017. Also other cast members Ludacris and Tyrese Gibson have spread the official rumor as well revealed through via instagram.

Frank Ocean reveals “BOYS DONT CRY” album to be releases in JULY

Today R&B singer Frank Ocean, makes a post on his tumblr of his anticipating album. The post was a picture (above) announces that his album will be titled “Boys Don’t Cry”. Also under the post on tumblr follows tags #Issue1 #ALBUM3 #JULY2015 and #BOYSDONTCRY.  Since Ocean’s 2012 album “Channel Orange” it has been slowly but surely three years from now since we all heard about a new album from him. Now back in January of this year Frank also released a cover song in memory of R&B Princess Aaliyah during her birthday weekend. The tribute song was dedicated to Aaliyah is called “You Are Luhh” a smooth soft melody like. That was also released on Frank’s tumblr page as well and hopefully soon to be on the third installment by Ocean. You can check out the song below. 

Rihanna’s New Music Release Shocker

As always Rihanna continues to shock fans dropping hints and snips of her upcoming new album titled “#R8′. Rihanna has always been known to try something different but this takes the cake, with a new acoustic, country-rock song, Rihanna teams up with Kanye West & country artist Paul McCartney for new single ‘Four Five Seconds’. Paul McCartney and Kanye West have worked together before on his song “Only One” for his upcoming album. For Rihanna this song happens to speak out of her rebel side, a bit raw but censored in a way. I happen to believe that #R8 will be out sometime this year it seems like a very exciting and anticipating album to look forward to, to be put it out for fans. It has been about two years since Rihanna’s last successful album, “Unapologetic.”

Big Sean Reveals Album Title

Finally Famous, Detroit rapper Big Sean has finally revealed his album titled “Dark Sky Paradise.” (album cover below) This will be Big Sean’s 3rd album as he reveals this album cover on social media and to fans. The album will feature hit songs like “Paradise” and “IDFWU” of course. Also the G.O.O.D music artist teams up with other artists like Eminem, Royce Da 5’9, Danny Brown, Dej Loaf, and Trick Trick for a new track to be put on the album as well titled “Detroit Vs. Jodeci Reunites!

The 90s R&B soul group gave an amazing surprising performance at the 2014 Soul Train Music Awards. Who would have thought that the hit group still got it after several years being apart. They performed their biggest hits like “Come and Talk To Me, and “Forever My Lady.” The crowd was so amazed as they danced and sung along to the words of the songs. The former 90’s group got to also wow the crowd with their new hit single “Nobody Wins” featuring hip-hop artist B.o.B, he too also got to share the stage with the legendary iconic group. The Soul Train Awards was aired (Sunday) November 30th 2014 on BET, and Centric networks. If you missed it you can view Jodeci’s performance just below.

Drakes Confirms OVO Clothing Store

Rap star Drake reveals that he plans to open up his own store in Toronto Canada. (OVO) “Octobers Very Own,” the title of the store. Back in late November, the Young Money star gave followers the first look on via instagram a photo of the store front (below) captioned “Proud of my guy @oliverelkhatib OVO Store opening soon. #6Slide”.

Rapper Rich Homie Quan Feeds Atlanta Community #FeedTheStreets

It is very good and interesting to see Hip Hop artists give back to the community.  Hip Hop star Rich Homie Quan happened to be in touch with the label (T.I.G) Think Its A Game Records. Rich along with T.IG CEO G. Fly Henry and the team, gave out over 100 turkey’s to families in need for this years Thanksgiving. This would be (T.I.G) Records 2nd Annual Feed The Streets Campaign in a row of a 2 day turkey giveaway at (DTLR) Downtown Foot Locker Room Store.  More proof of the Feed The Streets Campaign (below).

Solange Knowles Wed in New Orleans

With a great weekend to celebrate from a trip to Jamaica, to a dance off of “No Flex Zone”, to a movie night of Mahogany, singer Solange Knowles and music video director Alan Ferguson tied the knot after five years. Just last Sunday (November 16,2014) the 28 year old singer and the 51 year old director set their eyes on this day as a non traditional wedding if you would call it, a small ceremony located in New Orleans where the couple reside. Along with friends and family, helped celebrate the couples big day with a few optics of course. You can take a look for yourself (below), one in particular shows the couple riding on white painted bicycles arriving to the ceremony definitely my point of a non traditional wedding.

Lifetime’s “Aaliyah The Princess of R&B”

She’s on her way and its coming! Lifetime’s new movie “Aaliyah The Princess of R&B”  will be premiering his week. Through all  of the audition tapes and photo shoots from stars like Solange Knowles, 106 & Park host Keisha Chante and Teyana Taylor. Through the rumors and controversy over Disney Channel’s star Zendaya, comes the final pick of who will be the playing the main role, ladies and gentlemen I give you… 23 year old Alexandra Shipp. Now you may be wondering who is this girl? In fact you have actually seen her on a movie recently on tv, perhaps “Vh1’s Drumline 2 A New Beat”, was quite a success playing her character, with over 2.9 movie rating and 4.5 million total viewers. Now that Alexandra is the star of Aaliyah’s biopic this should be quiet a great year for her as a young actress. Aaliyah The Princess of R&B will be released this Saturday (Nov 15th)  @ 8 p.m. on Lifetime.

An All Beyonce Radio Station

It has already been launched that iconic Beyonce will have her own radio station. Replaced with Beyonce’s station, Houston’s “All-News92″ Station has come to a close along with the poor ratings and performance and losses over the past three years that the station has been viewed upon. Now Beyonce’s radio is not the station’s official title, because of it being owned by Radio One.

As far as what will be playing on the station will be from the latest solo music she has done to the female group Destiney Child’s, artists she may have worked with none the less Jay Z of course should be on the station as well. With Beyonce being from Houston Texas the station should be a success.

Jaden Smith, Mo’ne Davis, and Sasha and Malia Obama, Makes the List of 25 Most Influential Teens 2014

As a showbiz child, 16 year old Jaden Smith has been one to step outside the box from his social media of twitter. He has about 5 million followers he has managed to show his wisdom side that most teens his age may not show as an eye opener.

As the first black female athlete to appear on “Sports Illustrated”  cover 13 year old Mo’ne Davis is a great example as a influential teen. Playing for the Little League World Series baseball is a big deal and as a role model for a female is one too, which is normally overpopulated as a all male sport.

Its more than likely that the daughters of Obama will take on a strong leading role such as their father’s, being very driven into working positively like their mother there are no hold backs from them willing to succeed.

Being on this list is one thing but being black and on this list is as a positive and influential as a teen is another. Great Work!

4 days ago Solange post her angelic appealing looks to her instagram revealing the photos from Bang & Olufsen magazine. Photographer Casper Wackerhausen-Sejersen helped capture these looks, but creatively Solange made these photos look pretty amazing by her help in vision. Jada Pinkett Smith star as “Fish Mooney” on Gotham

The upcoming DC Batman prequel FOX “Gotham” series is coming, and Jada Pinkett Smith wants to let you know she is running Gotham City.  Jada’s character Fish Mooney is created for Gotham explained by her she said she has the capacity for certain amounts of wrong doing,” “She wants Gotham and has to go all the way. She has to be ruthless.” FOX also describes her as a sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner” who has “almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book.” Fish Mooney is the boss of Oswald Cobblepot also known as “The Penguin” of course. All New ABC’s Comedy Sitcom “Black-Ish”

Tracee Ellis and Anthony Anderson star in a all new sitcom “Black-Ish,” about culture not as race. The series is based off the creator of the show Kenya Barris and the life as an upper-middle class black man played by Anthony Anderson, raises his kids with some cultural background with some obstacles that may come in the way from time to time. Characters also played in this sitcom along with Anthony Anderson are Tracee Ellis Ross as his wife of course along with Laurence Fishburne as his father. Also Black-Ish is produced by Laurence Fishburne, along with the creator Kenya Barris has been in the writing works of shows like “Are We There Yet?,” “Soul Food, Girlfriends,” and “The Game.  ABC’s “Black-Ish” will premiere Wednesday September 24th @ 9:30 pm c.  You can check out the comedy sitcom’s trailer right now (below)

Keke Palmer Goes On Broadyway As The First Black Cinderella

21 year old Keke Palmer, is taking ethnicity by storm. From acting and singing, to her own talk show “Just Keke,” to now Broadway!  She recently just cut her hair as seen on her instagram (2 photos below) captioned as “Oop”, I’m thinking its for the part to star as Cinderella for the Broadway Play. Keke Palmer will be the first African American actress to play as this character on Broadway, along with Sherri Shepherd as her wicked stepmother, and hopefully Bravo tv’s “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Nene Leakes will be playing as her fairy godmother as she auditioned for the role. The Broadway play will soon be debuted on September 9th (Tuesday).

Posted on Instagram, Tracee tries to rap to Tyga & Young Thug’s track “Hookah. She had also done a video before raping to “No Flex Zone” weeks ago. She had a interview about the hit rap song,  she says she had no idea it was about a No b.s zone!  Her 2 hit viral videos are seen on Instagram and Youtube and a great way to get out some laughing energy trying to understand today’s hip-hop music. Idris Elba & Taraji P. Henson Promotes “No Good Deed”

 

  Appearing in LA Henson and Elba teams up together in promoting on their convincing new movie “No Good Deed”  Both are very excited on this new movie coming out very soon. Its about a murderer ex con (Idris Elba character), very violent towards women and he escapes as he makes his way to his next victims house. A wife and mother (Taraji P. Henson character) is shocked at this man that appears at her door while its storming out, he asks could he use her phone. As she leaves she comes back and as he leaves and invades her house, she is automatically overwhelmed. Movies like this do embrace a What if type of situation and they need to continue doing so taking part of these type of movies. A very good thriller you can check out the trailer (below). “No Good Deed” will be in theaters September 12th.

Oxygen’s Sisterhood Of Hip Hop

Oxygen is showing love for female emcees, with five different woman that only want one thing, to be known for their music. The show aired August 12th on Oxygen channel. So far so good, the show introduced all five ladies starting with Siya an openly gay rapper, that refuses to give up who she is just for her career sake. Next emcee Diamond known from a rap group called Crime Mob, and also dating a few rappers in the past like Love and Hip hop’s Lil Scrappy and Soulja Boy. She has the choice by taking her career to the next level by moving to New York and promises that she will not date any rappers. From Miami, Brianna Perry a former emcee that has work with rappers like Trina, Rick Ross and Missy Elliot. With the help of her manager who is her mom she is determined to move forward as a emcee and to also finish school in business. So far so good right? Well you can catch the next episode on Oxygen on August 19 at 9 pm EST. 

Tyler Perry New Drama Series “IF Loving You Is Wrong”

Tyler Perry’s 4th series installment on OWN, an all new drama series “If Loving You Is Wrong.” This show follows up on five different women that come from diverse backgrounds, in their middle class neighborhood that deal with love, cheating, scandal, and deception. K Michelle Rebellious Soul Musical on Vh1

Love and Hip Hop’s K Michelle takes Rebellious Soul album to the next level, on Broadway! With help being directed by Golden Globe-nominated actor Idris Elba, it will be a 30 minute opera. Songs included like “When I Get A Man,” “Hate on Her,” “V.S.O.P.” and “Cant Raise A Man” will all be on the hip hop opera. The Rebellious Soul Musical will debut on Vh1 August 19th at 10 pm. 

Angela Basset directs Whitney Houston’s upcoming biopic movie

 

As very intriguing as it sounds, Angela Basset close friend of Whitney’s will be directing Whitney Houston’s Biopic. The ideal of the movie will based on fame and the notorious relationship of Whitney and Bobby Brown, which makes since to name this movie entitled by Whitney Houston’s hit song; “I Will Always Love You: The Whitney Houston Story.” Whitney’s character will be played by Yaya DaCosta along with Arlen Escarpeta as Bobby Brown. As of yet the filming is going on now and the movie wont be released until later in 2015.

 

Americas Next Top Model Cycle 21 Girls and Guys

  CW confirms the premiere date for (ANTM) America’s Next Top Model cycle 21 returning on Friday August 22 @9pm ET on the CW. Also like season 20 it will be co-ed competing as you can see (picture above). Also former judge runway coach J. Alexander will return to the show with Tyra Banks and Kelly Cutrone as a judge to replacing Rob Evans.

In case you didn’t know 20 year old actress Keke Palmer has taken tv by storm by her own talk on BET! Iv’e seen it myself a for a couple of days and I must say she is making a statement for the Youth community, from everyday struggles of social issues to sex and relationships. Very down to earth. As she calls it (just being herself her natural personality) which America seems to love. The show airs every weekday @5pm ET on BET 

 

Zendaya to Play Aaliyah in Lifetime’s Biopic movie

Based on  Christopher John Farley’s book “Aaliyah: More Than A Woman, Aaliyah: Princess Of R&B”, Lifetime tv casting directors chose Disney Channel star Zendaya Coleman from hit series “Shake It Up”. She shared her response on twitter as she received this opportunity: “I’m just a 17 year old girl who got cast to play one of her biggest inspirations #positive“

Jamie Foxx as Electro in Spiderman 2

It is within 3 more days Spiderman 2 wil be released in theaters Friday, May 2, 2014. It has been a while since we have had a African-american play as a villain or superhero especially from the notorious Marvel productions. Not only in that order of change but Foxx character has a different color (blue), this was really amazing because of how the way Electro was portrayed as a yellow in the original comic book of Spiderman. Jamie says in a interview: “It won’t be green and yellow. It will be a different color. “They (the producers) want something for the future”. Either way I cannot wait for this movie!<a
